Road Types:
Roads in Bristol are varying types. The below spreadsheet, provides a snapshot of the different types of roads. State (S) roads are maintained by the State Department of Transportation - Town (T) roads are maintained by the Town of Bristol Highway Department - Private (P) roads are the responsibility of the property owners - Class VI roads, although they are under the ownership and responsibility of the Town, the Town cannot maintain these roads and any property owner who wishes to maintain them must seek permission of the Select Board.
Scenic Roads:
Scenic Roads are local, town designations. The following roads have been approved and adopted as scenic roads in the Town of Bristol:
- Hemphill Road — Approved 1973, Warrant Article #6
- Round Top Mountain Road, now known as New Chester Mountain Road — Approved 1973, Warrant Article #6
- Peaked Hill Road — Approved 1975, Warrant Article #15
- Smith River Road — Approved 1976, Warrant Article #16
